Neighbourhood Plan Evidence Environment
Published: 18 January 2025
The environment is a cornerstone of the Yarnfield and Cold Meece Neighbourhood Plan, with evidence highlighting a strong community commitment to protecting local green spaces, biodiversity, and the unique rural character of the parish.
Protecting Local Green Spaces
The Parish Council has identified six key sites as Local Green Spaces (LGS) to ensure their protection for future generations. These sites were chosen for their special significance to the community, ranging from recreational use to historical remembrance.
- Yarnfield Parkway: A valued public open space and recreational facility.
- Worthington Grove & Ford Drive: Essential open spaces for local residents.
- The Village Green: Specifically, the southern and middle sections, which are not common land and require formal LGS designation.
- Ashdale Park: A local recreational asset.
- Cold Meece War Memorial: A site of great emotional significance, serving as a place of remembrance for both World Wars.
Biodiversity and Habitat Enhancement
Evidence suggests a focus on active environmental management rather than just passive protection. The Parish Council has collaborated with residents and owners to transform neglected areas. Key environmental objectives include:
- Habitat Protection: Policy YCM6 aim to protect sensitive landscapes and habitats, informed by reports from the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.
- Enhancing Connectivity: Plans seek to improve “green and blue infrastructure,” ensuring habitats are well-connected and resilient to climate change.
- Biodiversity Net Gain: Any future developments are expected to contribute positively to the local ecology.
